2018 is proving to be a year full of rich experiences thanks to the rise of technologies like, machine learning, virtual reality and voice user interfaces. In order to make way for these immersive technologies, websites are showcasing simple, clean designs. If you are thinking of building or redesigning your designer websites, here are some trends to consider.

# Flat Design

For better mobile performances, web designers began creating simple and clean websites. Image-heavy sites usually have a slow loading speed that frustrates mobile users. Since the trajectory for mobile searches is pointing upwards, a mobile-first design for websites is becoming mandatory. This is why flat designs have become extremely popular in 2018 as they are all about usefulness and minimalism. Furthermore, the fast-loading, data-light design make optimisation easier and the chances of the website ranking well on search engines is enhanced.

# Expressive Typography

Whilst website layouts are kept simple, web designers are seen unleashing their creativity side through typography. Designers are depending on typography to lift the clean, minimal design layout of the website. There is so many diverse and interesting typography to choose from that web designers are usually busy finding the most appropriate one.

# VR or Virtual Reality Video

The rise of video on websites was seen last year and the trend gave way to Virtual Reality videos in 2018. Websites are making use of 360 videos, video mapping, 360 modelling and interactive videos to increase traffic.

# Voice User Interface (UI)

A voice UI, also known as natural language processing refers to the interaction between a human and a computer in the form of a speech. The rapid popularity of digital assistants, such as Cortana, Siri, Google Home and Alexa compelled web designers to include it in the website design. The number of websites being built with their own voice UI is constantly increasing in number.

# Mobile Prioritisation

Google’s mobile-first index means that web designers have to master the technique of building responsive, mobile-friendly websites. Today, mobile-version websites have a much higher chance of ranking over desktop-only versions. More and more websites are going through Google AMP and being designed using SVGs.

# Chatbots

The Internet users’ communication with bots have increased manifold over the last couple of years. When chatbots were initially introduced, they were not adept at solving customer problems or issues. However, thanks to development or AI (Artificial Intelligence) and machine learning, bots are not only used to answer customer query, but it solves issues and assists the users in the transaction process. Bots are a must-have in any web design.

So, when building or redesigning your website, make sure that you integrate the aforementioned trends into your web design.
